Alsahwa Net-The Houthis imposed new tax on agricultural crops and cattle in Hodeida, local sources and one government official said.

The measure is part of other violations carried out by the Houthis rebels against the citizens in Hodeida that experiences daily fighting despite the United Nations (UN) sponsored-ceasefire.

Walid Al-Qudaimi, undersecretary of Hodeida governorate, said that the rebels divided each neighborhood into ten quarters and assigned an intelligence officer in each quarter.

The militants frequently storm citizens’ houses and farms and deprive densely- workers- neighborhoods from food aides and monthly -cash assistance.

Each household receives only one food basket every three months with no cash stipend, the sources said.

Al-Qudaimi renewed the accusation which has been raised previously by the government and the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) that the Houthis officials steal food aids and sell them in the market.

The sources indicated that the militants force civilians to dig trenches in frontlines and in areas contaminated with landmines.

The Houthis-held territory of Yemen has no public power supply since the Saudi-led coalition began fighting the Houthis rebels in March 2015.

However, the Houthis restarted some of the public power plants, but for commercial purposes with unaffordable rate for household consumption, according to Al-Qudaimi.

He said that the Houthis changed the main public power plant in Hodeida into a commercial electricity station where they sell the public power to business firms.

The poor or medium-income households can not afford the new rate.

The past public power supply rate was only YR9 per kilowatt. The new rate introduced by the Houthis is YR260, according to a report by the Studies and Economic Media Center.

Al-Qudaimi noted that the Houthis sell the public power supply in Hodeida at the cosmetical rate despite receiving fuel for running the station from the Saudi-led coalition.

He said that the Houthis did not stop at depriving poor households from the public electricity access. They also imposed new taxes on the cattle, sheep and birds that poor households raise at home for food and cash income.
